You should have your garage door serviced once a year. You should also check the balance of your door once a month.
There are multiple reasons your door may not be opening:
The two most common reasons for this are either the sensors are out of alignment or damaged, or your settings on the operator are out of adjustment.
Check that your sensors are both on and aligned. Follow your owners manual for your operator to check the open/close settings are set properly and adjust if needed.
Here are the most common spring systems for a garage door and how to tell the difference:
Torsion springs have a standard life expectancy of 10,000 cycles. On average if you open and close your door 4 times a day (4 cycles) that would net you a between 6-7 years of use.
with the proper springs installed, you should be able to test the balance of your door to determine if your springs need to be replaced. If your door isn’t holding itself up at the half way point then you should consider getting the springs replaced before they snap and trap you in the garage.
YES! On a two spring system, you should always replace both springs.
Yes, we can get a higher cycle spring setup for your door. This is beneficial if you are using your garage door multiple times a day as a primary entrance into and out of your home. Sometimes this will require an extra trip to a supplier to get a different set of springs for your door.
Most operators have an average life expectancy of 10-15 years, but it is more based on the use of the operator and how well it is maintained.
We install and recommend operators manufactured from LiftMaster, and Linear.
Most new operators offered today have vehicle Home-Link comparability. You will have to follow your vehicle manufactures instructions to set the programming.
This depends on the age and use of the operator, and what is failing on it. Sometimes repairing an old operator can be as expensive as simply replacing it with a new unit.
Check the battery first. If you have a good battery, check that the buttons on the remote aren’t getting stuck. Follow the manufacturer instructions to reset the programming. Remotes can be fragile. If they have been dropped or damaged, they may need to be replaced.
Check the battery in the keypad first. If you have a good battery, try following the instructions on the underside of the lid to reset the programming.
This is typically an issue with the safety sensors.
There are a few different things that may be happening with the sensors:
This can be caused by two different things:
If you have an old door that isn’t performing like it should, or have any damage to your door, you should consider replacement.
This depends on if the model of door you have is still offered by the manufacturer. If it is available, then it can be replaced. A technician will be able to give you the best idea if it is worthwhile to replace a section alone, or the complete door.

Yes, there are different types and levels of insulation. This is called R-Value. The higher the R-value, the more thermally efficient the door will be. There are two main types of insulation. Polystyrene insulation is the most common, and is the less expensive option. Polyurethane is the higher grade insulation and more costly, but is great for higher R-value doors.
